Is corporate gifting tax deductible?

Corporate gifting is a vital part of any business. Whether you require new employee gifts to welcome new team members, luxury corporate gifts to give to clients after using your service or welcoming someone to their new home with a settlement gift, giving a long-lasting corporate gift is the perfect way to boost referrals around your service and to make a memorable impression on the recipients.

Luckily, corporate gifting is tax deductible. Meaning you can purchase luxurious gifts that go hand in hand with your service and claim the GST back at the end of the financial year!

There are a few rules involved when it comes to claiming back GST from your corporate gifts. Firstly, the gift must be under $300 and not seen as entertainment. Entertainment is seen as giving amusement gifts such as leisure/activities, theatre & film tickets,  a cruise or concert tickets. Whereas, non entertainment is seen is food and wine hampers, gift vouchers, flowers or other smaller gifts.

Whilst we would all love to give our clients a cruise or two, it’s not exactly something many of us think of when it comes to corporate gifting. Luckily, gift hampers are an acceptable gift that are tax deductible and the perfect way to compliment your staff or service. Whilst some may prefer a cruise, a long lasting gift hamper can also make a lasting impression.
